The Orland Park Police Department recognizes the importance of continuity of police service to the goals of community orientated policing. To that end, the Orland Park Police Department Patrol Division has developed permanent patrol beats and permanent shifts for each patrol officer. A beat is a specific geographic area, of which there are seven within the incorporated limits of the Village. Each of the three shifts staffs a minimum of seven beat officers to complete permanent beat coverage. In the past, officers were rotated out of seven beat areas. This did not allow our officers to interact with the people of their area and be able to learn the intricate problems of that area, nor did it give them an ample opportunity, once problems were identified, to assist the parties involved in creating a permanent solution to the problem. Officers are now assigned on an annual basis to patrol in only one of two beats on the same shift daily.
